A Natural Healing and Wisdom’s Guide to Chakras

0821131352

These words, in some form or another, are taken from the text Natural Healing Wisdom and Know-How:  Useful Practices, Recipes, and Formulas for a Lifetime of Health, an all you can ask for guide to such things compiled by Amy Rost.  It’s Ethan’s book that I’ve been sifting through for the past year.  I still am only scratching the surface on all there is to know, but I hope this better explains the idea of the Chakras.  Remember, there are no absolutes.  Do not take anything too personally, or passively, just be aware of who you are and what pertains to your individual journey.  You are you, you love what you love, you can only be you.  Those that matter don’t mind, those that mind don’t matter.

I take these ideas and examples and adjust them to my own sense of self, drawing advice where I feel weak or when I’m too full.  If any of these ideas sound interesting to you, I encourage you to further explore any such spark and focus on that energy in whatever way you find universally healthy.  I’m happy to help and exchange ideas along the way.

An Introduction

“The word chakra means ‘wheel’ or ‘disk’ in Sanskrit.  A chakra is an invisible (to the normal human eye) center of spinning energy.  Through the chakras, we are able to receive and transmit social, sexual, and spiritual energy.  They chakras have been described as the multipetaled lotus flower.  These flowers, which are considered sacred in India, symbolize the path of development from a primitive being to the full evolution of unfolded awareness.  They float upon the water, yet they have their roots in the mud, just as the flower of your crown chakra connects to the heavens and your base chakra has its roots in the earth…Whether you think of the chakras as wheels, spirals, or flowers, it is important to remember that they are energy systems which do not have a physical form…There are differing theories about which colors (or sounds or crystals [or aromas or even how many there are, anywhere from five to thirty]).  Since we are dealing with energy, there is an inevitable degree of subjectivity.  If three people watch the same sunset, one may describe it as salmon-colored, another as pink, and yet another as red.  A fourth, whom we label color-blind, may have an entirely different perspective…I will focus primarily on the rainbow system, with seven chakras from red to violet.  I will list specific colors, sounds, crystals, aromas…that can be used to stimulate or sedate the energy at each chakra.

A Simple Explanation

First Chakra:  When your first chakra is strong, you will be grounded and comfortable in your body, the world will feel like your home, and you will be competent at handling practical affairs. (body)

Second Chakra:  This relates to sexuality, sociability, friendliness, and desire, not just sexual desire, but the desire for anything-friends, love, material possessions, power, God.  The energy at this chakra fires up those desires and gives you the enthusiasm to reach out to achieve your goals.  It is also the center of physical strength.  (body, emotions)

Third Chakra:  This is the center of your special gift, your inner sun, and how it shines out in the world.  All the digestive organs, except the large intestine, are located here, so it governs the digestion.  It also relates to self-esteem and self-worth.  This is the center of gut-level intuition.  (mind, spirit)

Fourth Chakra:  This chakra governs your ability to give and receive unconditional love and affection.  When you experience loss, your heart will remain open if you allow yourself to feel all your emotions, including both sorrow and anger.  But if you try to protect yourself from pain by putting up walls, your heart energy will close down. (emotions, spirit)

Fifth Chakra:  This is the center of communication, creativity, and opening to spirituality.  Speech and singing originate from here.  Writing and teaching are also associated with this chakra.  (spirit)

Sixth Chakra:  This is about your openness to metaphysical knowledge.  It relates to your higher intuition, from which all things are known. (mind, spirit)

Seventh Chakra:  From here you feel your openness to Spirit.  When it is open you will experience a fullness in your meditations.  (spirit)

Now read on for the real break down and some examples that remind me of public school text book problems and their earnest effort to display diversity, sometimes to the point where they seem silly. Enjoy.
